VoIP - Voice over Internet Protocol
- One of the new advantage of broadband technology is for voice transmission. The sufficiently large bandwidth enable voice (telephone calls) to be transmitted between remote sites at no cost.
PABX - Private Automated Branch Exchange
- An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN).
SoftPhone - Software Phone
- A software-based phone for voice over IP (VoIP) that is installed in the user’s PC. Softphones can work as stand-alone phones or be part of an IP PABX family. They offer the full range of phone features, such as call forwarding and conference calling, and also provide integration with applications such as Outlook for automatic phone dialing.
